This is a question I am often asked when it comes to Newborn Photography. I've been photographing the babies of Logan City for many years now so have ended up with a gorgeous collection of props to use in my studio. Matt & I are both big at DIY when it comes to making props for my studio so I am very blessed to have an extensive collection. Of course, there are items I have purchased along the way also, like most of my wraps and blankets, but most of those little outfits you see in my Baby Photos have been made by either myself or by Matt. We both love to crochet new pieces. Matt's speciality is Amigurumi, contributing to the cute supply of soft toys available for sessions. I adore making all those little crochet and knitted blankets, hats, scarfs and nappy covers, so most of these are my little creations.
Check out our gorgeous Moon Prop. Matt made this for me several years ago. I painted it … but that was the easy part. Of course, I use baby-friendly paints in the studio. My newest nephew got to pose in this gorgeous prop when he had his recent Newborn Session in my Edens Landing studio. How cute is he???
I love to swaddle newborns in wraps when they are not posing nude or with little nappy covers on….. and I've ended up with a full rainbow of colours available for all Babies in the studio. You'll also find a wide range of Blankets, baskets, fur liners and basket fillers in the studio. Whatever your ideas are for your Newborn, I likely have enough range to help you achieve this. Of course, families are always welcome to bring in special blankets, outfits and props from their own home. I welcome this for sure. It helps add that little personal touch and allows me to create a true heirloom for you to treasure.
So, lets have a look at some of these props in action from baby E's recent shoot. I am a very proud Aunty and just have to show him off. Some of you may notice that there is a Rainbow Theme to his photo shoot. This is because this precious little man is a 'Rainbow Baby'. Rainbow Baby? What is that? Good question to ask. According to the Urban Dictionary: "A rainbow baby is a baby that is born following a miscarriage or still birth. In the real world, a beautiful and bright rainbow follows a storm and gives hope of things getting better. The rainbow is more appreciated having just experienced the storm in comparison. The storm (pregnancy loss) has already happened and nothing can change that experience. Storm-clouds might still be overhead as the family continue to cope with the loss, but something colourful and bright has emerged from the darkness and misery."
So, yes, this little man is very precious indeed. The second rainbow baby for my family in the past 18 months. I intend to spoil him rotten with LOVE …. and, like his big brother, capture all the events that will shape his story. What an honour!
Baby E's big brother enjoys Aunty Kerry's props. Here he is pretending to take a photo with an old Box Brownie prop. Priceless!
…. and precious little baby E makes FOUR! It's such an honour to watch this family grow … and to create a collection of images for them to enjoy for ever. It's such an honour to be Aunty to these two boys!
